The fundamentals

What makes a good OG image

Four things separate a preview that earns clicks from one that looks like a broken link.

1200 × 630, every time

Use the standard 1.91:1 ratio. X, LinkedIn, Slack, and Facebook all read the same og:image. Anything smaller than 600 × 315 gets downgraded to a tiny thumbnail.

Readable at a glance

Previews render small in a busy feed. Big type, high contrast, and a clear focal point beat a dense screenshot that no one can parse while scrolling.

A real image, not a logo

Set an absolute og:image URL under 5 MB, in PNG or JPG. Add og:image:alt for accessibility. A bare logo on white reads as an error, not an ad.

Tags that actually match

og:title and og:description should match the page. Add twitter:card set to summary_large_image so X shows the full-width image instead of a thumbnail.
